I welcome all of you behalf of my co-editor and the spirit of grassroots internationalization. Here lies the first ever Ganbatte Times webzine, a site that is sure to blow your minds . . . eventually. Jarrad and I decided to change the Ganbatte Times to a web format in order to better reach more members of both JET and non-JET communities, to facilitate contributions, and frankly, to make our jobs easier.
We’ve been working on getting this website up and running for the last couple of weeks. We know it shouldn’t take that long, but we’re kind of stupid when it comes to the Internet. CSS? You mean, C.S. Lewis? Despite setbacks that included deleting the entire website and sending frantic emails to the good folks at Hiroshima’s webzine Wide Island View, it’s finally ready.
The only catch is that, right now, there’s no content. We’d love to make this website look totally cool and magazine-y, but can’t do that without articles to link or comics and pictures to display.
This is where you come in. Send us articles at ganbatte(dot)times(at)gmail (dot)com and join our Flickr Group (see right). We can also accept images by email if you wish us to attach them to a post or article. If you are interested in becoming a regular contributor, please let us know, and we can provide you with even niftasticier privileges.
That’s all there is to it, folks. We need you. How’s that for a welcome, eh?

Pretty cool idea. How does one add a blog to the “blogroll?”
Step 1) Tell us what it is by email (see the About/Contact page) or post the address here.
Step 2) Wait for us to decide whether it’s a Friend, General (a.k.a. Blogroll), or specifically related to Kyoto prefecture.
Step 3) Look at the Links section and feel warm and gooey inside.
May I suggest you start your new site with maybe describing your prefectural areas for your current and future ALTs?
Then, get your PA to send out emails to everyone in the prefectural asking they write a short blurb about the local stuff worth mentioning in their area.
Then, maybe startup some type of forum to hopefully get the community connected and talking to each other.
Just some ideas, hope that helps…
When your blog/site gets bulkier, email me and I’ll put your peeps link on this page of Englipedia: http://jhsenglipediaproject.com/externallinks_onlinealtforums.aspx
Good luck! It’s about time Kyoto made a push to connect their ALTs. :)
Patrick,
Thanks for your suggestions, and thanks for taking the time to check out the site! Ah, the glories of trackbacks.
For forums and living advice, I strongly suggest that all JETs and other ALTs check out/post on KAJET’s forums (linked under Kyoto Beaujazz). It’s a sorely underused resource; they have helpful links and information on events and volunteer opportunities. KAJET, everybody. KAJET.
I’m glad things are up and running! Your site is looking quite snazzzzzzy.
Good luck with all the article wrangling!
I think I shall post something about this grand endeavor over at Wide Island View! Let people know about the JET love!
