Here’s the KPIC version of the announcement with the signup form link: http://www.kpic.or.jp/english/Films.pdf
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to give a little more background information on this event. The Kyoto Prefectural International Center (KPIC) wants to use film to help introduce Kyoto culture to foreign residents or study abroad students, especially JETs. In fact, I am the coordinator for the first session on September 11. We are going to start out with a little background about the film and Kyoto culture and history.
If you have never seen Rashomon, I would definitely suggest attending. Actually, even if you have seen it before, I would suggest attending. I have seen it three times now and I am still finding new subtleties and things that surprise me. It’s a fascinating film. It was the first Japanese film to win an award in the west and is hailed as a masterpiece. Another reason the KPIC chose to screen Rashomon is that this year is the 100th anniversary Akira Kurosawa’s (the director) birth.
So if you are interested please contact the KPIC or you can let me know. Hope to see you there!
