The JET in me: Starting my 3rd year as an ALT, I assist at 2 junior high schools, teach at 2 elementaries, and have lunch/playtime with a kindergarten every so often. Currently trying to stop pretending I’m a Nara JET by dipping my toes into KAJET. Faecal matter has yet to hit the fan and make splatter art. Fingers crossed!
Location and position in Kyoto: A truck-stop town called Kyotamba in the middle of the prefecture.
Where are you from? I’m a Kiwi.
What attracted you to JET and/or Japan? (We want the real answer): Actually wanted to try my hand at teaching English as a second language before undertaking a masters in it. Meanwhile, I’ve really been enjoying the perks of being able to travel more. Kiwiland is just so, so far away from other real countries–that make-believe one across the ditch doesn’t count. They say “feeesh ‘n cheeeps” for goodness sake.
What are you glad you packed? Clothes. Things would get pretty embarrassing without those. Not to mention awkward. But really, money.
What’s the one thing you forgot to put in your suitcase? Real cheese and everything over the 20kgs I was allowed to bring.
How were you hoping to benefit from your time in Japan? Gain experience in teaching English as a second language: check. Being able to speak Japanese: work in very slow progress. Travel more: continuous progress. Finding a money tree: where the hell is it?
What do you think the Kyoto community should know about you (e.g. your mad break dancing skills, fluency in Elvish and/or Klingon, learned to like grub worms during your time volunteering in the rain forest)? I like travelling. I like jump shots. I like it even more when I’m doing jump shots while travelling (see collage picture). I used to think there’s no such thing as too much ice-cream (see sundae picture). I’m actually a really, REALLY nice person. That being said–I will cut you if you cross my line (line varies day to day). Have a lovely day. <3 x
