Was looking to revisit everything Nagase when I saw your review and was charmed. I agree 100% about this drama...
But, they try to convince me, everytime, that girls wont go for him. It truly makes me aware that I'm watching fiction lol.

A few more suggestions:

1. There are futon pads for winter that are not heated, but instead absorb and return your body heat all through the night. They cost only about 2000 yen. You can recognize them by looking for something that appears to be a large, quilted towel with elastic straps on the corners (for attaching it to the futon). Super cozy and often more effective than an electric alternative.

2. Bubble wrap your windows! Many (most?) of the windows in Japan are single paned. Buy some bubble wrap, cut it to fit the window, and attach with a light mist of water from a spray bottle. This will double the insulation value of your windows and can save you a couple of man each winter. The best part is that it's reusable each winter! (Just label the bubble wrap w/ the window it fits.)

3. Hand/foot/back/chest warmers are dirt cheap and can last the entire day. These are little chemical packs that get warm when exposed to oxygen. I usually save these for exceptionally toasty days. I find that a single warmer on your chest or lower back will keep your entire body toasty all day. (Make sure not to put these directly on your skin unless you like chemical burns.)

Oh my god. I felt the SAME WAY when we were there at night... creepy didn't even begin to cover it. We arrived past 8 and it was pouring down rain... no one could give us directions to our ryokan and when we finally made it, I felt like I was in a horror film... just a little. It was a great trip ovreall, beautiful during the day, but very very deserted and unsettling at night.
